Conservation Specialist!

NMLC seeks an enthusiastic and self-motivated Conservation Specialist to work closely with the Southern New Mexico Program Manager, to assist with the organization’s land and water protection efforts across southern New Mexico. Primary responsibilities include: project management, GIS and mapping support, land conservation transactions and related due diligence (e.g., title review; environmental, mineral and water rights assessments baseline documentation; legal review and appraisals, etc.) and general administrative support. Requirements include: Bachelor’s degree (advanced degree preferred) in relevant field (e.g., natural resources, biological sciences, geography, etc.); excellent computer skills (Word, Excel) including demonstrated proficiency with GPS and GIS (ArcGIS, etc.). Prior experience with conservation easements, fee acquisitions and/or other conservation real estate transactions preferred. Position is based in Silver City, NM with travel around southern New Mexico. Candidate must be very organized and physically able to work in the field. Must be willing to contribute to maintaining a collegial, efficient and ethical working environment with staff, Board and others.  A sense of humor is appreciated even if it’s not that good.

Benefits of the Position

  • This is a full-time position with potential for advancement.
  • Salary range $40,000 to $45,000 – starting salary commensurate with experience.

Annual salary increases are based on performance and available funding.
