Mayfield Ranch

The Mayfield Ranch was originally part of the South Lake Valley Conservation Easement recorded in 2008, but has sense been separated as ownership changed.  As part of the Chihuahuan Desert grassland, the ranch consists primarily of a mixture of desert tobosa and grama grasses with desert scrub species including creosote bush and ocotillo found on rocky outcrops.  The ranch provides high quality habitat for mule deer, pronghorn antelope, javelina, mountain lion, black bear, golden eagle and other species of wildlife. Managed as rangeland, the ranch is used primarily for livestock production. This piece is part of a substantial block of protected lands in the region, both federal lands and well as private lands under conservation easements, strengthening the Lake Valley area of New Mexico as a hotspot for land conservation.
