Gary is a sixth-generation rancher of Bar Guitar Ranch in Picacho, NM in the beautiful Hondo Valley. His family raised sheep on the same property since the 1850s until 2002 when Gary transitioned the ranch into a cow/calf production of Angus/Brangus cattle. Gary also started and operated the Bar Guitar Growers, a tree-growing and landscape construction business, for 25 years. He later purchased a small feed company and started Bar Guitar Liquid Feed Co. LLC which currently sells liquid, protein tubs and minerals to ranchers for their cattle. The company now services over 5,000 head of cattle on 26 ranches throughout New Mexico and Arizona. Gary volunteered for 9 years with the Hondo Fire Department as a fireman, serving as Captain and assistant chief.
His love has always been ranching and his connection to the land. He’s a member in the New Mexico Acequia Association and active in water issues, and currently serves as commissioner on Picacho Ditch Association. He is a founding member of the “Save our Water” action group protecting the rivers and water rights, and he participates in conservation programs for both land and water. He received “Land Steward Award” from Upper Hondo Soil & Water Conservation District. He is constantly improving and upgrading facilities for the better of the land and animals. When he does get some spare time, he enjoys traveling and visiting family.
